REIMAGINED: WHERE IS HOME?

Unpacking Home:
A curatorial reflection

18/9/2026

In March–April 2026, I had the honour of creating an Open Call and curating an exhibition for Art District SG, a long-term gallery that I have been working part-time with since late 2025.

The exhibition started with my experiences and interactions with people from different walks of life. This changes my perspective towards mundane objects particularly in intimate and domestic spaces. At the same time, I was preparing for my Final Year Project for Bachelor of Fine Arts where I researched extensivey about housing, the realm of personal space and ultimately, led to the question on how spaces shape and object our identity.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Chloe Chai, the Gallery Manager, for giving me the opportunity to curate a show in celebration of Mother’s Day and the happiness and warmth that mothers bring into the home.

“Reimagined: Where Is Home?” is a group exhibition curated by Xin Yi and co-curated by Chloe Chai, featuring Jordin Pinto, Chloe Chai, Yang Yuan Yuan, and a selection of artists from the April's Open Call in 2026.

The Open Call is an open inquiry about what 'home' is on an individual and personal level inspired by Emanuele Coccia's Book, Philosophy of the Home: Domestic Space and Happiness (2024).  Home is a space where identities and relationships are shaped over time through the spaces we inhabit, the routines we repeat, and the objects.

Home becomes a gathering of memories, people, and things we choose to live with. Objects, photographs, spaces are small details that hold traces of who we are, turning space into something deeply personal and familiar. Inevitably, our happiness is often tied to these intimate, everyday environments.

Home  becomes a deconstruct physically and psychologically that reflect on memory, object, identity, and belonging. Each emerging and established artist navigates the tensions between longing and belonging, intimacy and distance, inheritance and reinvention. Across painting, mixed media, and sculpture, the works reflect on how personal histories and everyday environments intertwine to construct ‘home’.

For many artists, Home is a subjective and deeply personal space where precious memories and identities are built.
